Honor Cords & Academic Recognition
New Name, Same Mission: SBCHBC is now Southern Brazoria County Homeschool Graduation (SBCHG).
Honor Cords & Academic Recognition
One of the unique aspects of homeschooling is that every student's educational journey is different. Our Honor Cord & Academic Recognition Program celebrates academic achievement while honoring the flexibility and individuality of home education.
Honor cords and approved academic recognition provide a meaningful way to recognize a graduate's accomplishments while maintaining a consistent and dignified graduation ceremony for all participating families.
Southern Brazoria County Homeschool Graduation (SBCHG) is committed to celebrating the accomplishments of homeschool graduates while preserving the integrity and consistency of our graduation ceremony. This policy explains how honor cords and additional academic recognition are awarded for participation in the SBCHG graduation ceremony.
Honor cords and approved honor regalia are intended to recognize significant academic achievement, leadership, service, and other accomplishments earned throughout a graduate's homeschool journey.
Graduates may wear honor regalia earned through recognized academic, military, career, technical, or service organizations.
To help ensure consistency and fairness for all graduates, any honor regalia not specifically listed on this page must receive prior approval from the SBCHG Board before graduation.
Families requesting approval should contact the committee before the published registration deadline and provide documentation describing the organization's purpose, eligibility requirements, and the graduate's qualification for the recognition.
When reviewing requests for additional honor regalia, the SBCHG Board considers factors including:
Educational or service significance
Recognition by a legitimate academic, military, career, technical, or service organization
Consistency with the purpose and appearance of the graduation ceremony
Fairness to all participating graduates
All approval decisions made by the SBCHG Board are final.
Families are responsible for submitting any required documentation supporting eligibility for honor cords or additional honor regalia by the published registration deadline.
Failure to submit the required documentation by the deadline may result in the recognition not being included during the graduation ceremony.
If you have questions about honor cords, academic recognition, or additional honor regalia, we're happy to help. Please contact the committee before the registration deadline so any requests can be reviewed in time for graduation planning.
